Animal cops are basically people who are criminal investigators. They go out to locations on tips. People call their office and say "There is a homeless dog in my neighborhood" or something. The officers then pick up the animal and take it to a vet to get evaluated, treated, and then put up for adoption. If the pet belongs to somebody, they have to get a seizure warrant from a judge so they can take the animal. They then evaluate and treat the dog but cannot put it up for adoption. If the owner wants it back, they have to go to court, and present their case to a judge. Usually the cops win, and the animal then gets put up for adoption. If the owner doesn't care, the cops just get the animal. Criminal action can be pursued against the owner, and if so, the cops testify against the person. A very special and rewarding job.
An animal cop is a person who finds abused, hurt, neglected, abandoned, unhealthy animals and takes them in their van to the SPCA Hospital and try to nurse them back to health.
They are actually Animal Control Officers or Animal Welfare Officers.
