An ethical situation or more usually an ethical dilemma is one in which there is a conflict within oneself about what to do based on his personal ethics. Generally it pits two competing principles against each other. For example, a paramedic may not want to move a traffic collision victim out of a car due to suspicion of spinal injury but he also knows that the car is on fire and the fire is getting close to the gas tank. So, he must make a choice in regard to his ethic of doing no harm to the victim by not potentially injuring his spine further causing permanent paralysis and his ethic of not letting someone come to harm due to his inaction as his delay in moving the victim could cause due to the fire and possible explosion.
