It means to stop using the services or buying the goods of a company, country or other entity. Usually done by a large group of people all at once in order to compel the company to change some policy that is perceived as wrong.

A good example is when people stopped buying shoes from some companies because they were getting their substandard shoes made by little children in some Mickey Mouse country in some depressed country somewhere. (I think the boycott was aimed at the use of child slaves, not the quality of the shoes.)
