They were nicknamed the "Tin Lizzy"
Because at the time he used letters to designate his vehicles. It started with the Model A and went to the Model T. He then built another car after the Model T and designated it the Model A, not to be confused with the earlier Model A.

He didn't. His very first car was the Quadricycle. He then built several models starting with the Model A, B, etc and finally the Model T in 1908. He then again called another model the Model A in 1928. He used letter designations for his cars until much later on.
