bypass ratio im an early singlr or twin-spool bypass engine is the ratio of cool air mass flow passed through the bypass duct to the air mass flow passed the high pressure system.

Bypass ratio for the fan ducted bypass engine is the ratio of total air mass flow through the air fan stage to the air mass flow that passes through the turbine section/high pressure(engine core) system.A high bypass ratio i.e 5:1 is usually common with ducted fan engine.

Bypass ratios vary widely. Learjets 3500 lb. thrust engine has a ratio of 2.8-1 while some of the new engines on ultramodern airliners are near 10-1. The ratio is the weight of air that the Fan ( main propulsion thrust) moves compared to the weight of air that goes through the combustion chamber of the engine which produces some thrust but primarily drives all the rotating components.

How inefficiencies of compressor and turbine affect back work ratio and efficiency of gas turbine?

Inefficiencies in the compressor of a gas turbine cycle increase the back-work ratio and decrease the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine cycle, since they increase the compressor work.

What are the advantages of free turbine engine over gas turbine engine?

A gas turbine engine will usually yield more power by weight than a piston engine. Main downside is that it can't be throttled very well. Energy efficiency isn't all that good to start with, and will drop right down if it has to be operated outside its optimum range.

What is the difference between a Gas turbine engine and a piston engine?

a compressor does work on the gas , raising its pressure and temperaturea turbine does the reverse , it expands the gas as it passes through the turbine, extracting energy from the gas to do mechanical work. For a typical jet engine , the flow track on a compressor is of a converging cross section while is it diverging for the turbine, which is as per gas dynamic laws. The Turbine does two things here in the jet engine, one ,it runs the compressor and two, expands the gas to the propelling nozzle which produces thrust by accelerating the gas upto its exit.

What is a CIT sensor?

Compressor Inlet Temperature sensorfor a Gas turbine engine.

The function of a gas turbine compressor?

The compressor on a gas turbine and other jet engine types takes the air around us at normal pressures, and compresses it to much higher pressures and temperatures. Like the compression stroke on a internal combustion engine, the incoming air needs to be at extreeme pressures for the engine to be efficient.

What kind of engine is a jet engine?

Gas Turbine.

Why did they change the name of the gas turbine to the jet engine?

They use both terms. A turbine engine that's being used in an aircraft is a "jet engine," and a turbine engine that's being used in a ground-based application is a "gas turbine." Sometimes it's the same engine--the Lycoming engine used in the CH-47 as a "jet engine" is also used in the M-1 tank as a "gas turbine."

What is the difference between a Gas turbine engine ignition system and a piston engine ignition system?

Main difference is that in a gas turbine, combustion is continuous. In a piston engine, combustion is pulsed.

Is the Chevrolet Volt really an all-electric car it's been around that it has a gas turbine engine as well?

the Chevrolet volt is a series hybrid car.it mainly runs on battery power.the battery is charged by the regenerative braking and the gas turbine engine.when the battery power is low,the gas turbine engine is switched on.the gas turbine engine is connected to a generator which produces electricity to charge the low powered batteries.the gas turbine engine does not power the car direcly,it just produces electricity. The Chevy Volt has a 1.4 liter 84 h.p. internal combustion gasoline engine that requires premium fuel. it is not a gas turbine engine.

What is used to turn a generator?

A handle, a pair of pedals, a treadmill, a water mill, a petrol engine, a diesel engine, a wind turbine, a steam turbine, a gas turbine.

What is the differences between gas turbine and turbine engine?

That depends on what you are thinking of. Gas turbine usually refers to all types of jet engines and engines that use the 'jet engine' concept. The turbine engine you are thinking of could be one of a few things, like a jet engine for military aircraft, turboprop, or turbofan for commercial engines.

What is n2 aviation?

2nd stage temperature of a gas turbine engine.

How do you use the word turbine in a sentence?

My dadd uses turbine to heat the gas of hiss engine after he stopped at the gas stop and didn't find any gas left. ( This may be a weird looking sentence for turbine, but at least I got an A on it. )

What is power-to-weight ratio of steam turbine and gas turbine?

there is a mathematical formula to figure the actual power measured in Inchpounds of torque for both types of turbine engines. due to the light weight of the engine and the very high speeds in which they operate they are very efficient compared to other type of power plants generally the rough power to weight ratio of a typical aircraft turbine engine is around 85 to 95% output power compared to the actual weight of the type engine used.the exception to this would be a turbo-fan engine used on high speed aircraft which the power output is measured in footpounds of thrust
