RMS means root mean square and watts means power. What a difference! Scroll down to related links and look for a neat pressure converter at

"Root Mean Square" und knowlege about "Watt" Watts root mean square is the effective value of alternating current electrical power compared to direct current power. Scroll down to related links and look for "Why there is no such thing as 'RMS watts' or 'watts RMS' and never has been". RMS watts is meaningless, but we use that term as "an extreme shorthand" for power in watts calculated from measuring the RMS voltage.

RMS is Root Mean Square Value. The difference between RMS and true RMS is that the latter is the real or actual or effective value of AC voltage of the current for a particular circuit. True RMS tends to be a more accurate reading.

If suppose you have 350 watt speaker with 100 watt RMS, then that 350 watt is a peak rated speaker, with a true 100W RMS rating. The 100W RMS rating is thermal, meaning it can withstand the heat of 100 watts of power. Anything above that is risking it, but remember that a 100W RMS amplifiers is only going to produce it for a little while due to the dynamic nature of music. You'll rarely use all that power. That being said, if you're careful not to overdrive the speakers, a 160W RMS amplifier won't hurt a bit.

No. RMS is not a unit of measurement. It is a way of measuring something, like a watt.

===============================================

watt is unit of measuring electric power where as rms is the value of alternating current which equal to 1/./2 times the peak value of current.

What does 250 watt RMS mean?

250 watt RMS stands for the abbreviation of, "root means square". This sounds like an AC circuit or an audio circuit.For instance, if you take the voltage coming out of the wall socket and it's at 117 VAC, the true RMS voltage is: 82.718 volts, RMS.In audio systems, there's a difference between "peak power" and the so called RMS power, and in the situation where a stereo system has 150 watts peak music power, its "RMS" power is: 106.05 watts.How do you find out what the RMS rating is? Just multiply the peak voltage, peak music power, peak watts by .707 and you'll have the RMS power. In general terms, the RMS can equate to the actual "working power" of an AC circuit, or you can refer it to the "true power" available. Watts root mean square is the effective value of alternating current electrical power compared to direct current power. In AC there is a rms or effective value of voltage and a rms or effectice value of amperage. Power is volts rms times amps rms. What is the difference between 'in general' and 'by and large'?

The distinction is has almost disappeared, but there is a difference. "In general" means "true under most circumstances", while "by and large" means "both into the wind and away from it", and by extension "always true."

Why you need for true RMS multimeter?

RMS mean root mean square not all voltages are pure sine waves so the true RMS can be found by using this type of meter.

Conversion of RMS CURRENT to peak current?

In an AC circuit the voltage and current are n the form of a sine wave that goes between a maximum and minimum value 60 times a second. Measuring the difference between these values is a peak-to-peak measurement. Root Mean Square (RMS) computes an average (mean). To convert RMS to peak, multiply the RMS figure by 1.41. 1.41 is an approximation of the value of the square root of 2.

Is 120vac the same as 120vrms?

No. RMS is the the true heating ability of A.C. RMS means root mean square. That is the square root of two divided by 2 equals 0.707. Multiply the A.C. times 0.707 equals RMS.
