They are both high in fat but margarine is far worse. Butter is essentially the fat of sweet cream. It is perfectly natural. Like a lot of things, you probably shouldn't eat a ton of it every day. But it has health benefits, too. And it is delicious.

Margarine is hydrogenated vegetable oil. It is not animal fat, but it is a processed vegetable fat. It is fake! The reason that it remains solid at room temperature is a chemical process called hydrogenation. Fifty years ago dieticians believed that animal fat was bad for the health, and vegetable fats were a better substitute. They were wrong.

Always go with natural foods. If Americans just followed that rule, and avoided processed garbage, many of our health problems would disappear.
