Glutathione may be referred to as natural glutathione, reduced glutathione, L-glutathione, oral glutathione , or glutathione pills. These are all referring to the same product.

If you take any of these products, the glutathione is destroyed in the gut and does not raise your glutathione levels in your cells, where you need it. You must make glutathione in your cells with the building blocks that are necessary for production.

The best ways to raise glutathione are with variants of cysteine. I base this on the amount of research that has been done on them. One well studied method for raising glutathione is with the pharmaceutical drug N-acetyl-cysteine, or NAC.

The other well researched method for raising glutathione is with bonded cysteine, such as is found in Immunocal. You can learn more about these methods as well as all known methods for raising glutathione at the related link.

The best method for you is the one that you decide to use after doing your own research.

Almost every living organism from simple bacteria, to plants, to animals and humans that uses oxygen also produces and uses glutathione.

Glutathione is a tripeptide (small, three component protein)

composed of the three amino acids (protein building blocks)

glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine.

What is Glutathione

It is critically important to your health that every cell in your body has the capacity to make its own adequate supply of glutathione. Glutathione plays a key role in neutralizing the free radicals that we continuously produce through normal breathing and daily activities. If these free radicals are not adequately neutralized, your cells may enter a state of oxidative stress, which can lead to cell damage and challenge the maintenance of good health.*

Glutathione also helps recycle other key antioxidants such as vitamins C & E. So, it’s not surprising that Glutathione is known as the "Master Antioxidant"*.

Why is Glutathione Important?

Our continuing good health can be challenged if;

our cells become depleted of glutathione through excess exercise and exposure to high levels of toxins

we permanently lose the capability to make enough glutathione to deal with normal levels of free radicals in some of our cells, tissues and organs

the amount of free radicals produced by our cells becomes consistently higher than normal and overwhelms our glutathione production capacity*.

Is glutathione for Minors?

If you are asking if glutathione can be safely be taken by those under 18 years of age, the answer is yes.Glutathione is in every cell of your body from the day you are born until the day you die. In fact, regardless of your age, if you didn't have glutathione in your cells right now, you would not be alive. When you are breastfeeding as an infant, your mother's milk has the ingredients in it that are necessary for you to increase your glutathione production naturally. However, taking oral glutathione has no known effects, positive, or negative, other than lightening your wallet. The two most thoroughly studied ways of raising glutathione are with variants of the amino acid cysteine. One of these methods has the same ingredient to make glutathione that breastfed infants received while they were nursing, called bonded cysteine, and is found in the supplement Immunocal. This supplement is approved for all ages, including infants and children. The other most thoroughly studied method for raising glutathione is with a pharmaceutical drug called N-acetyl-cysteine, or NAC, and due to potentially toxic side effects, is not recommended for infants and children.

Can you buy glutathione without prescription?

Yes, you may buy glutathione at a health food store without a prescription. It may be called L-glutathione, reduced glutathione, oral glutathione, or glutathione pills.None of them will raise your glutathione levels, as they will be destroyed in your gut.To raise your glutathione levels, you must eat the building blocks or precursors for your cells to make glutathione internally.

What is the ifference between L-glutathione and maximised glutathione?

L-Glutathione is the same as oral glutathione, and reduced glutathione.Maximised or maximized glutathione is not an actual product, but more of a marketing term. You will see many references to "maximized glutathione production" when it comes to advertising a particular glutathione enhancer. In this case, maximized is not describing the type of glutathione, it is saying you will get the most glutathione production with this particular product that is being advertised. That aside, L-glutathione, oral glutathione, and reduced glutathione all have one thing in common: they do not lead to maximised glutathione production, or any glutathione production for that matter. You have to give your body the building blocks or precursors to make it in your cells.

You can use glutathione even though you do not have liver disease?

If the question is can you use glutathione if you have liver disease, the answer is yes.If the question is can you use glutathione if you do not have liver disease, the answer is still yes.Anyone can safely take glutathione. However, you cannot just take glutathione, and expect your glutathione levels to go up. You must take the precursors or building blocks for your body to make it in your cells. When you raise your glutathione levels, it actually helps your liver to do a better job and function optimally, since glutathione levels are highest in your liver and your kidneys, your main organs of detoxification. One of glutathione's main functions in the body is to detoxify or liquefy poisons and remove them from your body. So glutathione, if raised properly, can actually be beneficial to your liver if you have liver disease.
