They are the same thing. The temperature scale also called Centigrade is named after the Swedish astronomer, Anders Celsius where the temperature of water froze at 1 degree and boiled at 100 degrees. Anders Celsius called his proposed scale 'Centigrade', but the name was officially changed in 1948.

Celsius (also called Centigrade) is a temperature measurement scale which has 0 degrees as the freezing point of water and 100 degrees as its boiling point. Fahrenheit is a scale which uses 32 degrees as the freezing point of water and 212 degrees as the boiling point.

To convert Fahrenheit to Centigrade, subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit figure, multiply the result by 5 and then divide by 9.
To convert Centigrade/Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9, divide by five and add 32.

The Celsius scale ... sometimes called 'centigrade' ... calls the freezing temperature

of water "zero", and the boiling temperature of water "100 degrees".

The Fahrenheit scale calls the freezing temperature of water "32 degrees", and the

boiling temperature of water "212 degrees".

As you can see, the two scales have their 'zero' at different temperatures. Also,

Celsius degrees must be bigger than Fahrenheit degrees, because it takes 180

Fahrenheit degrees to cover the same range of temperature that takes only 100

Celsius degrees.

On the Celsius scale,

the freezing point is listed as 0°.

The freezing point on the Fahrenheit scale is 32°.

Likewise the Boiling point is also different.

The Celsius is 100°

And

Fahrenheit is 212°

They're both temperature measurements.

F to C: Deduct 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9

C to F: Multiply by 9, then divide by 5, then add 32
