Agoraphobia is the fear of being in a place where it seems difficult or almost impossible to escape if something were to happen. This can also exist in social situations. In fact, the Greek translation of "agoraphobia" is "fear of the marketplace." Agoraphobics would be afraid to get involved in traveling by car or plane, crossing bridges, leaving their home, or going to class. If they were to get involved, it would result in high anxiety or panic attacks. Victims can also make their home a prison, avoiding any situations entirely. This means neglecting work, going to school, or avoiding any social interactions.
