There is a difference between sperm and semen. Sperm are the cells that carry the genetic material semen is a combination of sperm cells and other fluids.

During the process of ejaculation, sperm passes through the ejaculatory ducts and into the urethra, it mixes with fluids produced in the seminal vesicles, the prostate, and the bulbourethral glands to form the semen.

These fluids are comprised of hormones, sugar, neutralizer for the urethra, lubricant and even an agent that will thin out a clumping factor to give sperm better better access to the ova after waiting in the in the female reproductive tract.
