In some case masochist fantasies may alternate with sadist fantasies but more usually the thoughts are solely masochistic. Being masochist can in some cases greatly impede on the person's success in life such as in their career. Others who may have very responsible management jobs in real life confine their masochism to private fantasies and never allow them to come true. The treatment of somebody who is masochistic is problematic and very rarely successful , primarily because most masochists have no wish to be cured and many keep their masochism secret anyway. It may be attempted by a course of psycho therapy arranged by a psychiatrist if the masochist is willing to seek treatment.
