Depends on if you need them or not. Amphetamines are usually prescribed for people with ADD or ADHD. It's supposed to help them calm down and be able to focus more.

Now if you're talking about taking them when you don't need them, it's quite the opposite. I was just at a party last night and I took an amphetamine pill along with some of my friends out of curiosity. Two of my friends got a loopy, euphoric high. It made them crazy and real loose and mellow. My other friend got pretty much wiped out by the pill. She was dead tired, and completely out of it. She would just lay on the floor and talk a bunch of crazy non-sense that we couldn't understand. She wasn't able to get up or stand up at all.

I, on the other hand, had the weirdest reaction. After I took it, I didn't feel any different until one of my friends pointed out that my eyes were very dilated and my pupils were HUGE. Soon after that, I started to feel shaky. My hands would shake if I held them out. However, I was not loopy or crazy or out of control. About 2 hours after I took the pill, I began to feel bad. I felt tired and dragged down, like all my energy had been drained. I felt nauseous, and had no appetite. I pretty much stood in the corner and wished to go home.

The effects of Amphetamine usually last about 6 hours. For me and my friends, however, we got about 4.5 to 5 hours out of one pill. We all were fine after we had taken them. I did have some side effects that were common with the pill, though. I had (and still have now) dry mouth, a headache, and loss of appetite.

So reactions to a standard Amphetamine pill can vary depending on if you need it or not, and your tolerance for it. It's a great medicine for people who have ADD and ADHD. But I would not recommend taking it if you don't need it. There are very serious risks involved with taking drugs that have not been prescribed.

Amphetamines are the most common drug used to treat ADHD; amphetamines belong to a class of psychotropic drugs known as stimulants. Stimulants based on amphetamine include Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine), Adderall(amphetamine), and Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) is also a stimulant however is not classified as an amphetamine.

Amphetamines are used to treat ADHD, narcolepsy, and rarely treatment-resistant depression or extreme obesity. ADHD is believed to be caused by a lack of two chemicals within the brain: dopamine and norepinephrine. These two chemicals play a role in focus, memory, and the ability to control impulses. Amphetamines increase the release of these chemicals from the brain allowing a person with ADHD to focus for longer periods of time, and helps the person to calm down.

While amphetamine is technically speed, numerous clinical studies have proven that those treated for ADHD are not likely to abuse their medication. In fact, some evidence points towards less drug abuse when treated since they have better control over impulses and have less stress since many of their ADHD symptoms are treated.

Side effects include increased heart rate, increased sweating, euphoria, anxiety, decreased appetite, and dry skin. Amphetamines can cause hallucinations and should be discontinued immediately. Large doses of amphetamine can cause heart attack, and in rare cases those with heart defects can suffer cardiac failure.

Stimulants are effective for most individuals with ADHD; every individual responds differently to a drug and may require less or more of a drug. In some cases, medication is not effective for some with ADHD.

Amphetamine is a controlled substance in most countries of the world and is illegal to possess or obtain without a prescription; it is known to cause psychological addiction in some people. People with a history of drug abuse should avoid using amphetamine.
