Electrical energy should be used intelligently because at this time the majority of it is generated by burning fossil fuels. These fuels are not replenishable; they also add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and contribute other pollution problems. From a more personal point of view, electrical energy costs you money. You have to pay for what you waste as well as for what you use intelligently. Wasting electricity (or anything else for that matter) is throwing your money away.

How is a renewable resource different from a nonrewable resource?

As their names suggest, nonrenewable resources cannot be replenished in any way after being extracted from the Earth. Renewable resources can be replaced eventually. Examples of nonrenewable resources include oil, coal, bauxite, and many other metals and fuels. Renewable resources include tree-based products and other replenishable resources including water. Although renewable resources are not likely to run out, they should not be wasted needlessly due to effort required to replenish them to meet demands.
