Bulk density is defined as the weight per unit volume of material. Bulk density is primarily used for powders or pellets. The test can provide a gross measure of particle size and dispersion which can affect material flow consistency and reflect packaging quantity. Bulk Density ASTM D 1895 B

Bulk density a property of particulate materials. It is the mass of many particles of the material divided by the volume they occupy. The volume includes the space between particles as well as the space inside the pores of individual particles. Bulk density is not an intrinsic property of a material; it can change depending on how the material is handled. For example, grain poured in cylinder will have a particular bulk density; if the cylinder is disturbed, the grain particles will move and settle closer together, resulting in a higher bulk density. For this reason, the bulk density of powders is usually reported both as "freely settled" and "tapped" density (where the tapped density refers to the bulk density of the powder after a specified compaction process, usually involving vibration of the container.)

paint industry is the only industry where all the calculations while preparation are carried out in terms of mass units i.e. in Kgs but products are sold in volume units i.e. in liters.

Therefore materials for formulations of paint should be of low bulk density i.e.it should have more volume and less mass so that paint formulator will get profit by increasing volume and reducing weight. Thus from bulk density he can predict which material is profitable for paint formulation.Less is the bulk density more is the profit for formulator.

There are a number of definitions for the word/ term bulk:

When buying something, you would generally buy one or two. Bulk (buying) is when you buy in mass of the same item. Generally there is a "bulk discount" associated with this. E.g. A shop buys 10 crates of tango. This way, they get a reduced price, have enough to sell to their customers and are able to add a small markup in order to make some money.

Bulk can refer to mass. For example a bulky load.

Bulk can refer to proportion. For example: The bulk of the votes were cast for the for the Democratic candidate.

How do you calculate volume if given bulk density?

Bulk density = dry weight / volume, then by knowing the dry weight and bulk density we can calculate the volume.

Maximum bulk density can be occur?

bulk density depend on that material from which soil formed. so maximum bulk density depend on particle density of that mineral. Therefore,we can only tapped the soil upto perticle density. so maximum bulk density may be occur at equal to paricle density.

Is bulk density influence soil texture?

Definitely, soil texture influences soil bulk density

What are the differences between soil bulk density and particle density?

Bulk density is the dry mass of the solids (M sub t) / total volume (V sub t) Particle density is bulk density (P sub b) / 1 minus total porosity (1-theta).

What is bunk density?

You're almost certainly asking about bulk density. I hear it mispronounced as "bunk" density daily. Bulk density is how much mass of a substance will fit into a given volume without any packing. It tells you about the particle density and also the packing order.
