I think what you meant was, "Why does the narrarator refer to himself as a person rather than speaking about other people only?" So I'm going to answer that question. If a narrarator speaks in what is called first person, he'd use works like "I," "me," "my," etc. Second person would be "you" and "your." And third person uses names and "him," "her," "it," etc.
