The 6th amendment (ratified in 1791 along with the first 10 amendments) explains the rights when on trial. The rights included are: the right to a speedy trial, the right to a public trial, the right to be judged by an impartial jury, the right to be notified of all nature and circumstances of the alleged crime, the right to confront all witnesses who will testify against the accused, the right to find witnesses who will speak in favor of the accused, and the right to have a lawyer.

The following is true of the 6th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:

1. It pertains to all criminal prosecutions.

2. The accused has the right to a speedy trial. In other words, the trial must take place as soon as possible after the arrest/arraignment.
