Arlington is the National Military Cemetary, located in Washington DC, near Arlington Mansion, from which it derives its name. The Mansion was originally owned by George Washington's great nephew, who sold it to an Army general named Robert E. Lee. When Lee went to join the confederate army during the civil war, he left it to his wife. Then the government got sneaky. The US Government refused to accept taxes from the property. It then forclosed on the property, due to Mrs. Lee not paying taxes. The US then put the property up for sale. the US was the highest bidder. After the War, Lee's nephew, and his heir, sued the US Government. He won, and the property was awarded to him. Instead of unearthing the graves of the Union soldiers entombed there, he donated the mansion and the surrounding lands to the US governmant, which turned it into Arlington National Cemetary.
