Basically established in 1789, the Constitution of the United States contains the basic governmental blueprint for the American Republic that won its independence from Great Britain between 1775 and 1783. More specifically, it contains a Preamble, seven basic Articles, and (at the present time of 2014) twenty-seven Amendments which further specify the privileges, responsibilities, and limits of American government.
