I don't know the exact GPA requirement to get into the University of Iowa. But you definitely need to get decent grades. A good GPA and a decent SAT scores are a must. After you accomplish this, start thinking about ways you can separate yourself from the competition. Extracurricular activates are very important. Lastly, make sure you want to go to University of Iowa. I know a lot of students that thought they wanted to go to their dream school, but when they got in and went to that school, they were really disappointed. You can get information about the academic requirements here: http://www.unigo.com/university_of_iowa/rankings and reviews of University of Iowa by actual students here:

The University of Iowa doesn't specify a range of scores or average SAT/ACT score for admission, because they use a proprietary formula, known as the RAI (Regent Admission Index), to determine which applicants to accept for enrollment.
The formula consists of the following:
2x.....ACT composite score
1x.....High school rank
20x...High school GPA
5x.....Number of high school courses completed in the core subject areas
If you took the SAT instead of the ACT, the University uses a standardized conversion chart to determine an equivalent composite ACT score (see link, below).
You can compute your own RAI score using The University of Iowa's online calculator (see link, below).
An index score of 245 or above is one of the requirements for Iowa high school students to be automatically admitted to Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at The University of Iowa. Students must also take the minimum number of high school courses required by the university to which they are applying and submit a formal application for admission.
According to Wolfram|Alfa (see link below), Iowa's average ACT score is 22.40.
