Hindus use many calenders, solar, lunar, and luni-solar. Different regions have different calenders. Indian Calender Reforms Committee found more than 30 well-developed calenders in different parts of India. Shalivahana calender is a solar calender and is the official calender of India. Luni-Solar calenders (Vikrama, etc.) are used for religious purposes. The oldest is Kaliyuga Calender which began 5101 years ago.

The oldest era is 24,000 years corresponding to a complete cycle of precession of equinoxes (the actual is some 25,000 years). More popularly, Yuga is a cycle of four eras (Satya 1,728,000 years, Treta 1,296,000 years. Dwapara 864,000 years, and Kali 432,000 years. Total Mahayuga). After that:

71 mahayugas = 1 Manavantara (306,720,000 solar years).

1000 Mahayugas = 1 kalpa = 1 day (day only) of Brahma

(Two kalpas constitute a day and night of Brahma)

30 days of Brahma = 1 month of Brahma (259.2 billion human years)

12 months of Brahma = 1 year of Brahma (3.1104 trillion human years)

50 years of Brahma = 1 Pararddha

2 parardhas = 100 years of Brahma = 1 Para = 1 Mahakalpa (the lifespan of Brahma)(311.04 trillion human years)
