The purpose of silence is to silence the mind from wandering, from bombarding us with thoughts. The purpose of silence is introspection and contemplation. The purpose of silence is to make the senses of our body quiet, otherwise we continue to crave till we reach our grave. We are living with desires and passions and the mind fuels them by bombarding us with thoughts, upto fifty thoughts a minute. This takes us nowhere. When we are silent, the mind is quiet. When the mind is quiet, we are able to contemplate, we are able to use our intellect to discriminate. And this takes us forward in our life of bliss, of peace, and of joy. Otherwise we live in stress, worry, fear and anxiety. It's our choice. If we experience silence every morning, every evening even for a few minutes, we will understand the true bliss that comes from silence.
