4.54 billion years is widely accepted. This is determined using various radioactive dating techniques and separate evidence for the age of the Sun indicates that the Earth is only slightly younger than the Sun. As well as direct radioactive dating, there is also strong circumstantial evidence from geology and Biology. In fact, one of the first scientific calculations based on the time taken for sedimentary rocks to be deposited gave an age in billions of years - so long that the scientist performing the calculation found it hard to believe and suggested hundreds of millions of years.

The Earth as an accreted celestial body of roughly the same size as exists today, was formed roughly 4.6 billion years ago as concluded by current scientific evidence.

The scientific premise that the earth is billions of years old is not disputed in The Bible. The Bible states In the beginning God creates the Heaven and the earth. (period) it doesn't state when! It then became void not was void! why would God create something void? This ruination occurred at the Katabol or Satan's Rebellion. The 6 days are the recreation for this age.

The idea that the Bible states the earth is only 6000 (or sometimes stated as not more than 10000, to make it a round figure) years old comes from a genealogical calculation performed by the irish Archbishop James Ussher in the 17th century. While it is published in many bibles as marginal annotations, it is not scriptural but a human estimate.

Geologic Age of the Earth

Based on current scientific knowledge, the elements that form the Earth have been dated to between 4.53 to 4.58 billion years old. Not only have the oldest rocks on Earth been dated radiometrically, but so have very old, very rare meteorites and rocks brought back from the Moon. All have dated to approximately 4.5 billion years old, a fact that speaks volumes because the Moon has not undergone the tectonic and seismic changes that the Earth has.

The progressive mineral and biological strata of the Earth tell a story of a long and complex history that created the world currently occupied by man. In this chain, humankind is a relatively new and unprecedented form of life.

The Biblical and Creationist Views ("Earth born old" hypothesis)

Using the records given in the Bible, scholars have estimated that the world is roughly 6,000 years old. Other religions provide varying ages based on their faiths' accounts of the Creation of heaven, Earth, and man. This is not the estimate that most of the scientific community accepts, because it requires that many of the biological and geological conditions on the Earth were created with the appearance of being much older. As documented records do not exist from the very oldest civilizations on Earth, no objective analysis of these beliefs can be made.

In actuality the bible does not say that at all.  Doesn't even imply it.  Someone took the lineages and came up with this figure. It mythology so don't sweat it.  The earth is somewhere between 4 and 6 billion years old.
