There is no average cost as you tend to get what you pay for. Your best option is to come up with a budget and stick to it. Decide what you want, how much you can spend and then find photographers that will work within your budget to get you what you want. I offer three packages and keep it simple. The only difference between the three is whether you want a small, medium or large album. Some brides like what I have and some don't. If you know what you want going in, you'll be much happier in the end.

Anywhere from getting a cousin to do it for free, like what my sister did, to a $5,000 professional like my brother. I wanted good quality without blowing my budget and found a 3-in-1 deal, photographer+video+DJ for $3,000. It was the most expensive part of my otherwise frugal wedding. However, I wanted good music for dancing and lovely pictures to show my grandkids, not a CD player hooked to a speaker and the fuzzy polaroids like what my sister got.

  • You have to shop around and get different prices. Some photographers have a well known name and they will be more costly, but there are other more common photographic studios that are just as good. Make an appointment with several photographers and ask to see their portfolio (of other weddings.) You can trim down the cost by requesting certain pictures at the church and at the reception. At the reception the photographer will take the bride, groom, Maid of Honor, bridesmaids, etc., out to an pretty area and take as many pictures as you would like (you are going to have to decide how many pictures you would want.) There will be pictures take of just the bride and groom; then the Maid of Honor with the Bride; Best Man with the groom only and then a group shot of the Bride, Groom, Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids and of course the Best Man and Ushers. Pictures of parents on both sides should be taken with the Bride and Groom. Inside the reception is where you can save the money. The photographer can take a couple of pictures of the Bride and Groom toasting each other; pictures of the head table; cutting of the wedding cake; first dance of the Bride and Groom. Then find a couple of friends or family members that are good at taking pictures and have someone also bring video equipment and have them take the more natural shots of guests; bride and groom, etc. Sit down with your fiance; parents and decide how to trim down the amount of pictures you would like to have taken.

The average price for wedding photography is from $800 to $3000. The cheaper deals will look ordinary and less creative. The expensive deals will offer stunning pictures using creative angles and ideas.

I think that it would cost about that much for a wedding. 1500 isn't too much at for that , a good photographer isn't cheap at all.
