The Basque people call their language Euskara. They are proud of their heritage and their language. In fact they have been defending their language against the Spanish government for more than 50 years. The Basque Separatist Movement Euskadi Ta Askatasuna has fought an armed revolution killing more than 800 people since 1959.

If you ask a Basque for the Euskara word for grandmother, the only answer you will ever get is amona.
