You could use just about anything from a .223 and bigger. I would recommend something larger than a .223 because boars have thick hide and bones so you need something that will inflict enough damage to take a boar down clean with on shot. I would use a .270 it will do the job fine.
But you could use just about any large caliber round.

∙ 14y agoYou will need to check with the Game Commission where YOU live- laws vary from state to state in the US.. I would stay away from anything smaller than .223 and would urge nothing smaller than .243. Great all round calibers for up close and medium range shots would be 30-30, .270, 7mm-08, .260, .280, 30-06, .308, 25-06, 6mm., 30-06, etc

AnswerIf you are hunting in woodland areas then a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun with an 18 inch slug barrel and scope sighted in at 30 yards will work great..Also the high powered handguns such as 357 magnum,44 magnum.
If you are hunting in open areas or pasture lands then any one of several high powered rifles will do just fine such as 30.06, 308, whetherby 300 magnum, 223, ect.
(single shot muzzel loaders are not recommended for hunting wild hogs at close distances as wild hogs do have a habbit of charging towards their attacker when the shot is missed or when wounded)
