house breaking a puppy is very fun here's how keep the puppy stuff in the same place every time let her learn basic commands like "good girl!", "dinner", "lunch", "breakfast", "good job", "biscuit's your puppy does something you don't like spray her with cold water

give her a treat when you think shes done something praise worthy.

these are simple commands " no ", "yes" , "fetch", "sit or sit down" show your puppy around the house so she gets familiar with it. show her where she can and cant go

now for walks make routes for walks if your puppy gets lost she will need routes to be familiar with if your puppy gets into stuff don't let that become a habit.

don't let her become to independent or dependent I guarantee it will become a problem also if you give your dog enough exercise she wont dig holes.

at 2-3 months old your puppy will need a daily routine when she will eat and what time

( usually morning ) early afternoon and obviously evening.

teach her where her bed is also what time she needs to go to bed what time she gets up and where she goes to the bathroom. if the dog is small enough get a litter box, and where her chew toys are. also what routes she will be taken in walks.

if you have a grooming table teach her what it is and the positions.

by using the proper training techniques! I would recommend watching a few dog whisper shows on demand so that you can get a feel of what to expect of over spoiling your dog or how to treat you dog in such cases. The best way to teach a dog is to reward for good behavior good listening and good obedieance to the pet owner or training. And for futher more help plz go to you local pet shop!

Take the dog outside every so often - aprox. every 30 minutes until it waits by the door when it needs to got to the bathroom (this may take a few weeks). If you leave somewhere (the store for example) and want to leave the dog inside of your home make sure that you leave newspaper on the floor for the dog to go to the bathroom. Hope this is helpful!:)

I've heard of some dogs who will use a cat litter box (obviously, without the lid on..... BUT, obviously, that's not all to common. What I've always done is used newspaper, scatter it around their "play area" - and as they grow older, decrease the amount of paper you put out, eventually they will "get the hint" and find the paper, and piddle on it. Eventually, you want the paper to only be at their normal exit/door where they go outside, preferably with an installed "doggy door" so they can go outside themselves... BUT, I've also heard of some dogs trained to "ring a bell" (bell tied to a string, hanging from the screen door) when they have to go out...But, if you aren't home, there's nobody home to take them out. Also, I recommend getting a good enzyme cleaner for cleaning their mess-ups. I prefer "My Pet's Friend" available from Dollar Tree stores (and maybe 99c Only, Family Dollar, etc...but not too sure, check locally) - it's cheaper than the "As Seen on TV" hyped brand, UrineGone. By cleaning up the mess with an enzyme cleaner, it keeps their "scent" off of the flooring, so they won't tinkle their again.

Here's some ways.

Do not have the dog an endless suply of water other wise you don't know when he has to pee. Only give water and then take him out to his bathroom spot and when he goes to the bathroom tell him he's such a good dog. Also after he eats take him outside. You can tell your dog to get busy and then you can take him where ever and tell him to get busy at the place you want him to go at. When he pees inside, if you catch him in the act tell him no and take him outside. Repeating this and he will realize he shouldn't urinate or defact indoors. Note: If you don't catch him in the act, do not correct him even if you stick hid nose to it. He will not know what he did wrong, he will think you are punishing him for know reason. This is Adam Katz the dog trainers way of housebreaking a dog.

Puppies need routine to learn, so one should be consistent in one's feeding and walking times. It is a good idea to have an indoor cage where the puppy can sleep at night and can be kept when the owners are out of the house. Puppies should go outside first thing in the morning, after food and last thing at night, plus other times during the day. Be patient and consistent and the puppy will soon be housebroken.

Puppies are just like human babies. After they drink or eat it's about 15 - 20 minutes later they will have to go to the bathroom. Go outside with them! Puppies rely on YOU! That's a big world out there for a wee one to be looking at and they can be afraid, so go out with them. Just walk around and most of the time they will pee at least and then pick them up, hug them and praise them a lot. If they make a mistake in the house DON'T hit them. Get a used kennel from a groomer (usually very cheap and then wash it out good) then put a blanket in the kennel and a piece of your old clothing with your scent on it (it calms the pup) and when the pup makes a mistake shake your finger at it and say "shame." Pick the pup up and put it in the cage for NO MORE than 10 mins., and then let it out. It won't take long for the pup to know a praise from "shame."

First of all, you have to keep in mind the following are general guidelines, and while they do work for most dogs there are always exceptions. But training the dog is your responsibility, and being consistent is the best way to guarantee success.

Always take it out after every time it eats, drinks, plays and wakes from sleeping. This may sound like a lot, but it's really not. And if you are consistent, then housetraining your puppy will go much more quickly and be less stressful for you and the puppy. You have to remember this can be confusing for the puppy, which can result in a stressful situation for him if you aren't consistent, as well as being very patient.

When taking it outside to potty, have it on a leash. Take it to the area where you want him to relieve himself and use your choice of words, saying them calmly, but repeating them until he relieves himself. For example, you can say "Go potty" several times until he does, and then praise him for it.

If you raise the tone of your voice to a higher or softer pitch, he will know you are pleased with what he did and where he did it. So after you tell him (calmly) "go potty", and then in a higher (or softer) tone of voice say, "good boy" several times while patting him on the head after he does his business, he will know he pleased you and will want to continue to do so. Positive reinforcement such as this (the praise and patting) works very well on dogs.

Never, ever scold, hit or punish the dog in any way for accidents inside the house, and NEVER rub his nose in it. All that will result in is a dog with a dirty face, as well as further confusing the dog, and making it afraid of you. You have to remember this is something that requires work and effort on your part as well as his, but he is the one who is just learning. It is up to you to teach him, but do it in a patient, calm and consistent manner.

If YOU are consistent in these training methods, it should go very quickly and be quite successful, resulting in a happy dog and dog owner.

And if you live in an apartment and don't have a lawn to take him, always bring a "doggie bag" with you to clean up after him.

Why are small dogs difficult to housebreak?

Simple answer: small dog = small bladder They just can NOT "hold it" as long.More complicated answers:1. Some people are just not as diligent with housebreaking a small dog. Reason is because if full-grown a Chihuahua has an accident it's easy to clean; if a full-grown German Shepherd has an accident it's a huge mess!2. People are more likely to "paper train" smaller dogs first...this makes full housebreaking take longer.3. People are more likely to"spoil" a smaller dog vs. a larger dog.4. Some people (idiots really) don't have a clue how to housebreak ANY dog .... they use "old fashioned"methods like hitting or "rubbing the nose in the mess".This does NOT housebreak a dog!! It only makes them afraid so that they hide somewhere in the house when they have to "go".... and a small dog can more easily "hide" a mess than a big dog.

When is it too late to housebreak a puppy?

Technically, it's never too late to housebreak a puppy (or dog). You can housebreak a 6-year-old dog, but it is going to be harder than housebreaking a younger puppy, because the habit of relieving himself whenever is less ingrained. Until puppies are 12 weeks old, they are not physically capable of "holding it" (until then, watch them carefully and take them outside/to their papers whenever they have to go; put them in a crate when you can't supervise them), but housebreaking should begin as soon as you bring your dog home. To do it, simply reward when he (I'm using the masculine here, but the training process is the same for females) relieves himself outside and ignore when he doesn't: punishment is pointless. Hope this helps!
