Run cold water over them, or put them in a large bowl with cold water changing it frequently. Running the water over works faster though. It keeps the food cold and out of the danger zone while it is thawing.

Keep this in mind, if you want to save water this is not the way to go.

When in a rush Putting marinara sauce that is sealed air tight into Luke warm room temperature water is a great way to thaw marinara sauce. The water will help in the transfer of energy better then it will in air (this will help thaw faster by 10x) so it's great method for most foods! And unlike a microwave or an oven you won't have to worry about burning it.
