La Guyane, or French Guiana, is an overseas region of France on the north coast of South America. It is bordered by Suriname and Brazil. Its currency is the euro, and its prefecture (capital?) is Cayenne. Not the same as French Guinea (now the country of Guinea) in West Africa.
The French name is "La Guyane" (from Guyane française). The original colonies were at Cayenne (twice seized by the Dutch as Dutch Cayenne) and at Sinnamary. Cayenne remains the capital of the French overseas region.
