You can contract HPV (the virus that causes all kinds of warts) by walking barefoot in warm and moist environments, such as gym locker rooms and public Swimming Pools. The virus thrives in such environments, and can get into the skin through cracks, cuts and scrapes on feet. The virus can also penetrate skin which has been exposed to water for a long period of time.
Thankfully, plantar warts can be treated with medical procedures as well as over the counter topical solutions (Wartanol, etc). Unfortunately, HPV is not as easy to treat.
There isn't a definiate way to get planter warts it just happens.
You are probably referring to "plantar" warts. The word 'plantar' is referring to the bottom surface of the foot. The warts are caused by a non-living entity known as a virus; in this case, (usually) the human papilloma virus (HPV). This virus enters the skin of the foot if there is a skin lesion, or when the individual may be ill or when their immune system may be otherwise compromised (such as during times of different medications). Frequently, the virus enters the skin of a normal, healthy, person as well. Since the incubation time associated with the virus is so long, it is virtually impossible to know with any confidence when a particular person picked up a particular virus. However, public showers are certainly associated with transmission of the virus.
A plantar wart is a wart on the bottom of the foot, a particularly inconvenient place for a wart, since it will constantly be irritated when weight is placed on the foot by standing or walking. Other than that, they occur for the same reasons as any other kind of wart; certain fungi and viruses can cause warts to develop.
plantar warts left untreated will spread to other parts of the foot and make new warts, existing warts will grow bigger and deeper into the skin. in simple words they will only get worse. trust me i know because i am in the process of trying to get rid of plantar warts on the bottom of my feet after years of them left untreated. get them properly treated asap, take care of yourself and good luck
Warts are caused by a virus. The virus comes out of the wart and then infects other parts of the body or other people by contact with it. Swimming pools are places where this happens.

Plantar warts are, by definition, warts on the bottom of your foot or toes. A wart appearing anywhere else on the body is not a plantar wart, even if it's caused by one of the strains of the human papillomavirus that's generally associated with plantar warts. (If you're asking if it's possible for the virus to spread from a plantar wart to other locations on the body: yes, that's possible. But it wouldn't be CALLED a plantar wart; if it appeared on the palm, for instance, it would be a palmar wart.)
