What color is a brown bear?

A grizzly bear can be either black or dark brown.

Almost a gray or silver color. But you CANNOT go by color; black bears come in those colors too. There are gray, brown, yellow, white, and black black bears. Can't go by size either; there are giant black bears.

You must go by a combination of: Claw length (3 or more inches for grizzlies), hump at the base of the neck on the back, and the lower rear tooth (it'll measure a certain size). The claw length will be the most readily available means of identification. Black bears average about 1 1/2 inch claws.

brown More info: That depends on the type of bear. The brown bear has brown fur, the black bear has black fur (thus, their names), and the polar bear has white fur. There is also the kodiak and grizzly bear, but I don't know what color either of them are.
