Look under the rear of the truck on the left side frame rail. The wire for the back up lights is light green. The brake/turn signal wire on the left side is yellow. The brake/turn signal wire on the right side is dark green. Your taillights and bumper lights are a brown colored wire. You also have a black ground wire. I ; those are the wire colors for the rear lamps on my truck anyways. I own a similar Chevy truck. Good luck.
I ran into one that may shed some light. The brake light switch harness get damaged from the poor position it is in. It is a real mother to get at too. Post your results.
I had the same thing on my '91.It was a headlight switch
Check the circuitry to the backup lights. The same fused circuit is probably used for both brake lights and backup lights. As you go past Reverse, the backup light probably is turned on briefly, causing the fuse to blow. It's just a thought, but I'd think it worth checking.
The brake light switch is under the dashboard, attached to the brake pedal. Try the break pedal, up underneath the dash. This is usually a switch which will open with the lightest pressure on the pedal, which is why some people's brakelights are on all the time. Driving with one foot on the brake pedal means driving with your brake lights on. Which increases the reation time of the the following driver. (End of Sermon.)
By the nature of the question I assume that you are referring to the tail lights and brake lights. My Explorer has four bulbs. Tail, brake turn and backup. They are all in separate compartments of the light assembly. So it could be that you have just burned out one bulb. If you are referring to the upper brake light in the rear window or at the top of the tailgate, same thing. One or more bulbs are burned out. I see people driving all the time with both lower lights burned out and the top working or visa versa.
No, the license plate light is wired in with the rear tail lights, not the brake lights.
replace fuse
the connection between the battery and the brake lights
A bad brake light switch, and it is bolted to the steering column in under the dash.
if the tail lights work but not brake lights then its most likely just a blown fuse or it could be the switch at the top of your brake pedal arm.
If emergency brake is on 1 click it turns daytime running lights off. Pull out on emergency brake handle and see if this fixes the problem.
push your parking brake one click and it will turn them out
Check the brake light switch. It should be mounted on the upper part of the brake pedal or the brake pedal frame. If the brake lights go off when you unplug it you have a stuck or shorted switch.
Check bulbs?
Brake lights indicate when a vehicle is about to stop. When brake lights stop working it is important to check the wiring, the fuse, and the light itself. It could be that any of those need to be replaced.
what does it mean if my brake light is blinking on and off when its pushed down in my 1999 Chevy silverado
Change brake light bulbs Just remove the rear license plate. You can change the backup lights and brake light easily.
Bad stop light switch? Located at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash area
