The military industrial complex is basically the symbiotic relationship between big business and the US Military. Since technology is constantly being updated, the military needs to be updated to remain prepared. The term was coined by President Eisenhower during his last national address to warn the American people of this coming problem.
Big business basically invents new technologies, the military decision makers covet these things, a foreign country steals these things, and we end up buying it to stay ahead. It's basically a big money trap that we are now mired in.

∙ 10y agoThe idea behind the concept of a military industrial complex is that there is an artificial lengthening or causation of wars by a government so that a private military company can profit from the war. The term was coined in the 1960s and was applied to wars before the 1960s and wars after the 1960s.

∙ 9y agoThe so-called military industrial complex US President spoke of in his departing days in office are a piece of domestic fiction that was expanded to represent some sort of danger to the US in foreign and domestic affairs. At the time, and even now, there is competition between manufacturers of military equipment. President Eisenhower, even in retirement could have given specifics concerning how certain industrial and military lobbyistscould influence the US government, but somehow these examples are nowhere to be found.The idea that former high ranking military officers became CEO's of defense industrial corporations, or became lobbyists for them is true. However, competition among government defense contractors, and intelligent political figures, prevents any undo influence in gaining a contract, or in fostering public policies favorable to them, or policies relating to foreign affairs. If there was and is, then it cannot stand the light of day. Examples of the influence of the military industrial complex do not exist.
