This question is not clear. There is no built-in COUNTDOWN function in Excel, but there is a way you can do so. There are many things you can count down, including the number of days until a specific date. If you want to count down to a specific date, so the following.

  1. In A1 enter your target date. Use 12/25/2010 for this example.
  2. In B1 enter the formula =A1-NOW().
  3. Format B1 to be a number instead of a date.
  4. Observe in B1 the number of days until Christmas.

NOTE: You can get a little fancy by putting the following in B1 ="There are "&INT(A1-NOW())&" days until Christmas."
