Still rising, but currently around 390 PPM. This changes slightly with seasons and locally, but is substantially the same all over the world over time. There are also several free iPhone climate applications such as CliMate Mobile were you can view weekly CO2 data from NOAA reporting stations or going back almost as far as want such as detailed data from 1880 to the present or millions of years.

Which gas stimulates us to breathe?

breathing is controlled by the level of co2 in the blood, (not due to the fact that there may be low amounts of o2), there are chemoreceptors that measure the pH level of the blood, remember that co2 can be transported in the blood as carbonic acid, thus this acid lowers the pH. if a low pH is detected, it sends nerve impulses to our brain, that stimulates us to breathe in an effort to get rid of the co2.

What does CO2 blood level of 31 mean?

CO2 regulates the body breathing functions. The normal range is 23 to 32. A level of 31 is within the normal range. High levels of CO2 could indicate a breathing problem.

How does the brain control breathing?

there's a part of this brain called the respiratory system and if i am not mistaken it is located in a part of the brain called pons and the medulla oblongata. the brain controls the rate of breathing by monitoring the level of carbon dioxide in the blood. CO2 by the way is the main stimulus for breathing. without it, you just stop breathing at all (so CO2 is not at all that bad). anyway, when CO2 levels in the blood is high a condition known as respiratory acidosis develops. as a compensatory mechanism the brain causes us to hyperventilate to get rid of that extra CO2. when the CO2 level is low on the other hand, respiratory alkalosis develops. as a result the brain will cause us to hypoventilate which allows for the accumulation of CO2 in the blood. CO2 is maintained at a normal range which is 35 - 45 mmHg.

Why photosynthesis rate is higher at sea level than that at high mountains?

The partial pressure of CO2 in air decreases with the increase in altitude. Therefore, increase in molar concentration of CO2 is smaller at higher altitudes than at lower altitudes for increases in molar fraction of CO2. This study aimed to predict the effect of global CO2 increase on net photosynthetic rate of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at high altitudes. The net photosynthetic rate of spring wheat grown in Lhasa (3688 m above sea level), China, was compared with that of the same cultivar grown in Sapporo (15 m above sea level), Japan. At the current level of CO2, it was signifi cantly lower in Lhasa than in Sapporo, and stomatal conductance, chlorophyll content (SPAD value) and apparent quantum yield were similar in both locations. The interaction of CO2 level and altitude was suggested; the amount of increase in net photosynthetic rate caused by increase in CO2 was smaller at high altitudes than at low altitudes. Lower CO2 partial pressure at higher altitude could explain the difference in net photosynthetic rate between altitudes, and the interaction of CO2 level and altitude.

What is the percent of atmospheric oxygen needed to support combustion Can levels of CO2 ever get high enough to make combustion difficult?

Fire fighting school in the 1970s taught us 15% oxygen level si necessary to support combustion. In a natural situation, no. Current levels of CO2 are 0.038% Levels of over 15% would be needed to even slow the burn down. Lack of Oxygen would be the determining factor

How does CO2 affect pH levels?

CO2 dissolves in water and forms H2CO3, a weak acid. Therefore, the presence of CO2 will lower the pH slightly from its previous level.
