Indirect characterization uses statements and dialogue to describe a character by providing illustrating examples.

Example: "She was not looking forward to wearing a frilly dress to the dance."

Indirect characterization is a literary device in which the author show the characteristics of a character without explicitly stating them. For example, instead of saying that a character is quick to anger, the author would include several scenes in which the character loses their temper.
