The difference is that rock is plain and punk rock has many styles take Green Day for example they are the best punk band in the world and then take the Jonas brothers they do rock and see witch one is better.If u have never heard of these bands listen to them on YouTube when u listen to Green Day listen to their song ''Whatsername'' and then listen to Jonas Brothers ''Keep it real'' and I think you'll like Green Day better I know I do I hate the Jonas Brothers!!!!!!!=) THE differencce is THE DROPKICK MURPHYS.....PUNK ROCK!! GOOD SONG IS THE BOYS ON THE DOCKS, BAR ROOM HERO'S lets go murphy's!!!=p

∙ 11y agoThe difference between Alternative rock and Indie rock is Indie rock has a more mellow/soothing sound where as Alternative plays more on your emotions such as heartbreak and life experiences.
I suggest listening to Thats what you get by paramore then listening to beat of my own song by meme then you might see the bigger difference between the two genres.

∙ 12y agoIndie and alternative are my two favorite genres. Indie means independent, and when I think indie I think more hippie-like. Most indie songs are repetitive and are kind of flowy. Foster the People, The Shins, and MGMT are a few examples of indie.
Alternative rock is kind of like a mix of rock and a small amount of pop. I can't stand pop, but I like alternative.
Of course, I could be totally off.
