An LCD screen puts out no light. Zero. So in the older LCDs, fluorescent lighting behind the screen was utilized, but the color tended to be a titch on the green side.
And the LCD screen that is lighted by LED lights behind it has no such color problem. Also, since the LEd lights can be made so tiny, the picture on an LED LCD is sharper.

∙ 11y agoLCD uses a liquid crystal to produce composite colors, such as RBG, for each pixel on a screen, and is illuminated using a backlight, usually cold cathode or an LED panel solely for light.
LED on the other hand uses extremely tiny LED (Light Emitting Diodes) to produce light directly from the diodes for each pixel. It can use a grid of RGB, or the LED may produce multiple colors itself. In the case of OLEDs, it uses tiny organic electric cells to produce a screen similarly to LCD, but with much higher density and much brighter, uniform color.
