It should be getting more obvious. If you have the same breed, the roosters will have redder larger combs and a larger crease in the middle of their chests. If you have a mixed flock it might be necessary to wait until you actually hear them crow. Hens of some breeds end up with large beautiful red combs too. Young roosters can start crowing between 3 and 4 months old.

It depends what breed you have.

If you have a sex-link breed then you will be able to tell the sexes of the chicks by their color immediately after birth. Simply research your breed name and ask what color males and females will be. However, not all breeds can be sexed at birth by color.

Vent sexing by an experienced poultry worker can be done at one day of age. This technique is difficult and requires a great deal of experience.

In certain breed crosses, chicks can be sexed by observing the differences in the appearance of the primary wing feathers. The feathers on the wings of the female will be a little longer and in a different pattern than those on the males. Most chickens can not be sexed in this manner.

By 8 weeks old the cockerel will be bigger, with a more pronounced comb and wattle.

The male birds will be more out going, curious and aggressive towards other birds.

How do you tell the difference between a hen foot and a rooster foot?

I am not sure if you are talking about a hen foot or a rooster foot as in math, because I have not heard of that, but if you are talking about the bird chicken, an adult rooster usually has a spur (hard, naturally pointed growth) just above his foot, while a hen usually has just a small bump in the same spot.

How do tell the difference between the leghorn rooster and hen?

Silkies are hard chickens to find out their gender. Either you can vent sex them, which should only be done by a professional because you can hurt or even kill your chick. Or you can just wait until the chicks are old enough to lay eggs or if it crows.

How can a mother chicken tell which chicks are her's when on a farm with other hen's chicks?

By verbal communication, and even by sight. To a human all chicks peep the same, but to a mother hen, she can tell which chicks are hers and which are not.

How do you tell the difference sex in baby chick?

The easiest way is to look at the comb and legs. Male chicks usually have a larger comb and legs than the female chicks. You can't ever tell 100% though even hatcheries don't always sex them correctly.

What is brooding chickens?

A broody hen is the term used when a hen is ready to sit on and hatch eggs, or is already sitting on eggs or has chicks. Basically, a hen in a 'mothering mood'. You can tell she's broody by the deep clucks she makes, her fluffing up her feathers and possibly squawking when anyone (including the rooster) comes near, desire to sit on eggs, and of course, if she already has chicks.
