Acute means suddenly, or out of nowhere. Chronic means it has been there for a while. An enlarged heart would be considered chronic. A sharp pain in your wrist, that just started would be acute.

An acute illness is one that is very severe in that moment in time. A chronic illness is one illness, no matter what the severity, that lasts over a period of time, or goes into remission but comes back more than once. An acute illness can be chronic--- a severe illness lasting a while. An acute illness doesn't have to be chronic, though, and a chronic does not have to be acute (such as a chronic cough)

chronic shows the history of the problem while acute shows the level of the problem for example if a disease is since long it means it is chronic and if a disease is on advance stages it means it is on acute stages

"acute" means very bad, a worse case of. So if you have acute pneumonia, it's a much more severe then regular pneumonia, while "chronic" means persistant. A chronic disease is one that will either last you a very long time, or one that will never go away, so an acute chronic disease is a very bad disease that will never go away.
