The major differences are, of course, in governmental structure. The mandate of heaven no longer dictates who will rule, and all the other obvious things that come with a communist governance. The culture has changed in that traditional ideas (eg. footbinding) and religions (eg. Confucianism) have been largely given up, in part due to efforts like The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.
