Maize is the proper name for corn. Wheat and corn were once closely related as varieties of grain bearing grasses. Mankind has hybridized corn far away from its original form in nature. Wheat remains closely related to rye, barley, rice etc.

No they are not the same. Wheaten corn flour is from wheat and therefore contains gluten. Corn flour is from ground Maize. Both can be bought separately in Australia. I have yet to find a source of wheaten corn flour in the UK ,but still looking. lph1

Maize is the Native American name for corn, and corn and all other grains are modified grasses, so no corn does not contain any wheat.
