= E-mail addresses and web addresses = E-mail addresses An e-mail address usually looks like firstname.lastname@example.org The simplest way to recogni…se an e-mail address is the @sign. If you see an address that has an @ sign in it you know it is an e-mail address, not a web address. An e-mail address usually belongs to a person. You can use the address to communicate with that person using email. Web addresses: * often begin "http://". Nowadays you don't have to type this bit in. * often contain "www." (which stands for World Wide Web) * have other "words" separated by full-stops (.) or forward-slashes (/) * often have the word "visit" before them in newspapers and magazines! A web address is the address of a page on a computer or "web server". If you type a web address into your browser - or click on a link in a document - the webserver will send the page to your computer's browser so you can read it. (Your computer must be connected to the Internet for this to be successful) If you want to "visit" a web page, use your web browser(Internet Explorer, Firefox or others). Press + L and type in the web address (Remember to press at the end). You should see the page if you are connected to the Internet Tip: If the address starts with www. you often don't have to type this bit in either. Just type the rest of the address. If you don't get the result you expect (
e-mails are basically letters that are typed up on a computer and sent, just like a letter except it's not on paper and in an envelope. An IM is a chat that you can automatica…lly reply to the person and they get it instantly and can instantly reply back to you without sending e-mails back and forth.
"what is different e-mial and web mail?" With regular e-mail, the message sits on a server waiting for you to open your e-mail program (Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird). When you… open the program (or use the 'check for e-mail' function, the waiting messages are downloaded to your computer. There are setups that leave messages on the server, but this is not typical. The disadvantage of downloading your e-mail is that you can no longer access the messages anywhere else (your work, friend's house....). The advantage to downloading messages is you can archive them. Web mail offers a huge advantage. The messages are not downloaded to your computer, they are kept on a server. This allows them to be accessed from anywhere. All you need is a web browser and a connection to the net. The down side is archiving. Many web mail providers don't allow for tons of storage (Gmail changed that trend for some people - now others are following suit). Your Internet provider (not Hotmail, etc.) is probably set up to let you access e-mail via web mail as well. Not only can I use Outlook to access my messages (and thereby download them to my PC), but I can access any messages that weren't viewed yet by visiting a specific web address (I must know my username and password). I have been using web mail to access my regular e-mail account for a long time now, because it allows me to view messages from different locations. I stopped using e-mail programs because I want my messages left on the server instead of getting downloaded. Not using e-mail programs also solves many security-related issues.
Emails may be text, image, video or audio files sent over the internet. The received file is saved as a digital file, which may then be saved, edited, copied, printed, forward…ed, etc. A fax (short for 'facsimile') is just old-school method of sending an image over the phone lines to a dedicated machine attached to a dedicated phone line at the target telephone number, which prints the file automatically upon receipt. The faxed item must be created as a paper document before transmission and is recreated as a second paper document on the receiving end. It cannot be altered, saved, or edited as a data file, only by physically cutting and pasting with scissors and tape. Think of it as a long-distance photocopier, or a print version of a read-only PDF file.
I heard that Yahoo! was the best one. I personally think it is Hotmail because you can personalize about everything on your page, have a picture for your user, and more. Y…ahoo! is still a good e-mail. I guess it is the safest! You can also have backgrounds when you write a message. So, if you don't know what to have, just choose the one of your style.
Email is like placing a letter in the mail box. You can open it whenever you feel like whereas SMS is like tapping on the shoulder and forcefully giving a message in the hand.…
