∙ 13y agoThe US Dept. of Labor defines unemployment as the percent of the US workforce who have no employment this week and actively searched for work.
Underemployment is the vague concept of workers not employed in jobs for which their experience and education qualify them, because they can't fins such jobs at convenient places. The underemployed are employed, since they have jobs.

Disguised unemployment does not mean totally unemployed.It means employment but,in this employment more people are employed in a job in which less people are required

∙ 12y agoUNDERemployment, compared to UNemployment, is when a person IS working, but at a job where the worker is over-qualified, but working at the job anyway. An extreme example would be a nuclear scientist working as a cab driver (and this has actually occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada. Underemployment also occurs when the worker is working less than full time, i.e. 20 hours a week instead of 40, When underemployed, under certain circumstances, where qualified, you may be eligible to receive partial unemployment benefits.
