The abbreviation 'vs' is for the word 'versus'. Versus means 'as opposed to', or against. Via is from the Latin meaning through, or path. There is a road in Rome called the Via Appia, the Appian Way.
In various individual or sports contests, opponents' names are sometimes separated by 'vs'. In travel itineraries, you might see something like 'from Greenville to Mapleville via Easton, Bradbury and Enton". This is telling you that you are going through, and probably stopping at Easton, Bradbury and Enton on your way to Mapleville.
