Baptist pastors have a number of duties. They give a sermon every Sunday, but they also perform counseling and baptismal services. Additionally, they manage a variety of church projects, and serve on the church board of directors.
Church-specific duties depend on the bylaws of the local church, as well as the expectations set by the church culture. However, some normal duties or expectations are as follows:
1. Participation in church activities. Not every single one... but be regularly involved with activities of the church.
2. Financial support. Support the church through tithes and offerings.
3. Ministerial support. Seek to be involved in the ministries of the church beyond simply participating. Ministry may be within the church or outside of the church, but members should be seen as active in God's mission on earth through the church.
4. Active in governance. Baptist churches are normally congregational. As such, members vote periodically on major decisions. Members are expected to vote and also be involved in the broader decision-making processes within the church.
5. Abide by church standards. Seek to live a godly life, and abide by church standards and church discipline. Since Baptists accept the doctrine of the priesthood of the believer, abiding by standards is not without limits. The church guides but does not dictate.
Sadly, their role is to misrepresent God and Jesus...sorry.
