It is the cooling fan for the engine. Even if you shut the engine off, the cooling fan will
continue to run until the engine heat gets back down to a normal level. The fan can turn on at anytime. Watch your fingers.

On the V-6 engine, it is located on the drivers side block just above the oil filter. On the 4 cylinder is also on the drivers side block behind the alternator.
