Any ion pump or transporter. Cells make 'electricity' or more properly a potential difference by moving charged ions (sodium, potassium, chloride, hydrogen etc.) across a membrane and 'compartmentalising' them. The charge difference across the membrane gives rise to the potential difference. In terms of voltage, it's usually up to about 80mV or 0.08 Volts. The cells use a lot of energy to create these potential differences usually by hydrolysis of ATP or from exothermic redox reactions. The inter-membrane space of mitochondria is just one example of such a compartment. Hydrogen ions are accumulated here and then allowed to flow out. The energy released is used to synthesise ATP for general use in the cell.

What is a cells power plant?

The mitochondria is commonly referred to as a cell's power plant in eukaryotic cells.A cells power plant is the mitochondrion which produces ATP for the cell to perform its functions.

What do mitochondria do in both plant and animal cells?

They are the power plants that drive the cells by producing ATP.

Function of the mitochondrion in a plant cell?

The mitochondrion functions similarly for both plant cells and animal cells, producing the ATP used for energy. It can be considered the cell's power plant.

What type of cells do the mitochondria take place in?

Mitochondria is in both animal cells, and plant cells. The mitochondria is the part of the cell that is like the small power house in the animal/plant cell.

Which organelle is the power plant of the cell?

The mitochondria ( Singular: Mitochondrion) is often called a cells power plant. This is because it makes the cells energy.

What is the Description of a nucleus in plant cell?

The nucleus is the power house of a cell. They are found in both plant and animal cells

Chloroplasts are found in what types of cells?

Plant cells, not animal cells.

Is there mitrocondria in both plant and animal cell?

Yes, both plant and animal cells have mitochondria.

Threadlike units in the nucleus of animals cells?

Both animal and plant cells have mitochondria , power houses that convert energy stored.

Does a lichen have plant cells or animal cells?

Plant cells.

What Plant cells have?

Plant cells do not have centrioles, but animal cells do.

What kind of cells are plant cells?

All plant cells are eukaryotic cells
