The Lockheed YF-12 A a prototype for the SR-71 blackbird is known to have achieved at least 2,275 mph (mach 3.3 at 80,000 feet altitude). It is assumed that the aircraft can (…and has) attained higher speeds, but the exact figure is still top secret. The X-15 has achieved much higher speeds, but since it is rocket powered, is not relevant when discussing the worlds fastest JET aircraft. There are unconfirmed rumors of faster jet-powered aircraft. The SR-91 Aurora is supposedly capable of speeds in excess of mach 5 using pulse-jet engines, but there has been no official statements made about this aircrafts performance figures, or even its existence.
2,193.167 by the Lockhead SR-71A is the fastest for a jet plane the fastest by any plane was 4,520 by a rocket plane though
The fastest one is Russian MIG-25 (speed: 3,645 km/h, 2,385 mph). The MiG-25 is the fastest interceptor that was actually put in service, but the max air speed was limited t…o Mach 2.83, or around 1,865 mph at altitude. This plane was caught on radar at Mach 3.2 one time but both of the planes engines were destroyed from the heat. The YF-12A variant of the SR-71 Blackbird airframe was the fastest interceptor type of aircraft built, although it was not put into production. the fastest air craft is the Lockheed SR-72 martin its lockheed martins new plane the SR-71 is the 3rd fastest plane the Lockheed SR-91 Aurora is the 2nd fastest plane in the world
The Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde (2,140 km/h or 1,330 mph) was the fastest commercial aircraft to date. While not the newest military aircraft, the US X-15A-2 reached a spe…ed of (7,274 km/h or 4,520 mph) making it the fastest aircraft to date to be flown by a pilot.
the sr-71 lockheed blackbird is the fastest plane recorded. it goes mach 3(3x the speed of sound). it has no weapons on it but is used as a spy plane.
The F-15 Eagle is one of the worlds fastest operational fighter jets with a top speed of Mach 2.5. The Lockheed YF-12 interceptor, one of the predecessors of the SR-71… "Blackbird" was approved for acquisition by the USAF back in the 1960's, but due to government intervention the order for 100 planes was canceled. The YF-12 was reportedly capable of Mach 3.35.
The NASA X-43A is the fastest unmanned rocket/scramjet plane. It cannot initiate flight on it's own. It is launched from under the wing of another aircraft. The X-15… is the fastest manned rocket plane. It also was launched from under the wing of another aircraft. It's top speed was Mach 6.7 The SR-71 is the fastest jet engine, manned plane. It was capable of sustained Mach 3+ flight and set several official speed records that still stand today. According to the NASA web site: "Guinness World Records recognized NASA's X-43A scramjet with a new world speed record for a jet-powered aircraft - Mach 9.6, or nearly 7,000 mph. The X-43A set the new mark and broke its own world record on its third and final flight on Nov. 16, 2004. " "In March 2004, the X-43A set the previous record of Mach 6.8 (nearly 5,000 mph). The fastest air-breathing, manned vehicle, the U.S. Air Force SR-71, achieved slightly more than Mach 3.2." While there are other aircraft that claim to be faster than the SR-71, none can sustain Mach 3+. The Russian MIG-25 can only hit a peak of around 3.2 before having to decelerate to prevent severe damage to it's engines. Links are not permitted here, but you can visit the Guinnesworldrecords dot com web site. the fastest plane is black bird.
Without a doubt, the SR-71A Blackbird (decommissioned). It is able to reach speeds around 3.3 mach (1 mach is the speed of sound) in level flight, and it is said that one achi…eved 5.5 mach. Under what circumstances, I do not know, but I suspect it was coming out of a dive from the edge of space, 90,000 to 100,000 feet.
At the moment it is the Boeing 747-473 (747-400) operated by Air India. However, Air India placed orders for more than 50 aircraft in 2006 (most have been delivered) including… the Boeing 787. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, when it arrives in Air India in late December 2011, will be the fastest passenger plane in India.
The Falcon HTV-2, the fastest plane ever built. It would get from London to Sydney in less than an hour, while withstanding temperatures of almost 2,000C, hotter than the melt…ing point of steel. The US Defence Advance Research Projects Agency will launch the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 on the back of a rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. If all goes to plan, engineers will launch the Falcon HTV-2 to the edge of space, before detaching the plane and guiding it on a hypersonic flight that will reach speeds of 13,000mph (about 20 times the speed of sound) on its return to Earth.
Answer It is the Concorde, although it is no longer used for commercial passenger flights. what is the fastest passenger plane in the world
There are several records for the "fastest plane" depending on what type of aircraft you are talking about. Air Speed Records Manned airbreathing jet aircraft: Lo…ckheed SR-71 Blackbird -- 3,530 km/h (2,194 mph), set in 1976 Unmanned Air-launched hypersonic scramjet: NASA X-43A --12,144 km/h (7,546 mph), set in 2004 Manned Air-launched jet aircraft (incapable of breathing air): North American X-15, 7,274 km/h (4,520 mph), set in 1967 As a comparison, commercial jetliners such as the Boeing 747 cruise at about 500 mph (885 km/h).
Before the Concorde's retirement it was the fastest passenger plane, cruising at Mach 2.02 (~1320mph). Now the fastest planes are the 787 and A380, optimized for Mach 0.85 (~5…67mph).
The X-43 actually is the fastest plane in the world (although it is unmanned) and achieved Mach 9.68 (7,368 mph) on 16 November 2004. It was an experimental hypersonic air…craft flown by NASA.
The fastest commercial airplane i think now is the Boeing 747 since the concord is out of buissness
liedetector2000: The SR-71 Blackbird was the USED TO BE fastest jet in the world but now here is the LATEST and THE WORLD's FASTEST jet in the world. Now the fastest jet i…s owned my NASA and is called X-43A. it can reach the TEN TIMES THE SPEED OF SOUND. souring at above 33,223metres above earth. apparently, since it reaches 10 times the speed of sound, it's wings are tiny. it's nickname is the hyperjet. it's the next step to being opperated fastest in space. At the heart of the X-43 is the scramjet or Supersonic Combustion Ramjet. You can think of it as an upgraded version of the ramjet - the kind of engine used by the SR-71. The Supersonic Combustion Ramjet basically takes in oxygen, which is needed for combustion, directly from the atmosphere. In order to create thrust, rockets mix liquid oxygen with liquid fuel. this makes this jet soo fuel efficient compared to others. To give you an idea how fast the fastest jet in the world is, compared to others, imagine this: there are more than 30 jets that are faster than the speed of sound and yet almost all of them have top speeds either way below or only near Mach 3. Mach 9.6 is definitely way way faster than that. more details here at http://www.universetoday.com/40624/fastest-jet-in-the-world/
