Answer . \nThe fuel filter is located on the left (drivers)frame rail, just ahead of the fuel tank, almost directly below where the driver sits. The fittings can be difficult to remove, and benefit from a dose or two of a good penetrating fluid, such as P.B. Blaster or WD-40. Also give the fuel l…ine a coating, as well as the filter mount. I squeeze the fittings gently on all six sides (three positions) with vice grips before trying to remove the lines. Flare or line wrenches are helpful, although I usually end up using the vice grips due to corrosion. Carefully work the fittings/filter back and forth generously applying penetrating fluid if things are rusty/stuck. Waiting a few minutes for the fluid to work helps as well. The later steps may not be needed if you aren't in the rust belt.. Answer . \nI wanted to add, use a wrench or plier on the filter as well as the fitting on the line. Do not use only one wrench or plier, using the remainder of the system as a back up. You could twist or damage something on down the line. (MORE)

Rear hatch has two rods inside the gate, take off the rear plastic panel from inside then you will see one of the lucking rods is loose because the horseshoe self lucking washer is not there, put the rod back in place then rear gate open, install new washer and you will be happy. I have a newer As…tro Van 2005 and had the same problem. It was the fuse connected with the cigarette lighter. For some reason that fuse only does one half of the hatch when it goes, only one half of your hatch will unlock. Also, a warning to anyone else with a newer Astro van, the dealership told us the gate was much much harder to take apart and fix on the newer vans. So just an FYI to add on here for anyone with a newer van that stumbles on this problem. (MORE)

Look for two small black boxes mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. They are up high and are side by side. It should be one of these. On my 1995 they are both identical. You can switch the wires around on the two boxes and this will test if one of the relays is bad. Another good test when …trouble shooting a fuel pump is to find the wire going to the pump and check to see if power is getting to it when you turn on the ignition. Use a basic 12 volt tester and have someone turn the key on. I just went through the same thing with my 1995 Astro. Mine turned out to be the pump, had to drop the tank and enjoy a day crawling around in the dirt. (MORE)

You can get to the tensioner from underneath the van. Release the tension, slide the belt off any of the pulleys. When installing the new belt, put it on the engine side of the tensioner first so you can get your ratchet back on. If you have someone who can hold the belt on the a/c and alternator, it's only a 5 minute job. Solo it takes 10 minutes tops. (MORE)

you have to remove engine cover . locate coil (follow wire from cap) . the bolts are on the bottom of the coil there are two (2) . if you use a ratchet and an extension with a 7mm socket you can reach them . if they are stuck or the bolt spins with the nut there is very little room to get a wren…ch on the bolt head just take the socket (shallow works better) and the extension put it on the nut and push it side to side snap off bolt nut end and then push the rest of the bolt through with a nail or something like a nail . new nuts and bolts that will fit and work just as good are about 25 cents (hardly worth the trouble of fighting the old ones out) . And remember it's still CHEAPER to do it yourself even when is seems like hell at the time (MORE)
